Mali in the City is Zoos Victoria's mammoth public art event, designed to engage Victorian's in Melbourne Zoo's 150th Anniversary celebrations.
The event, run in conjuction with Wild in Art, will see 50 life-sized fibreglass models of the Zoo's most famous Asian Elephant calf, Mali, designed and decorated by a variety of artists and then displayed throughout the streets of Melbourne during August and September.
The life-size sculptures will transform the city's streets, parks, neighbourhoods and public spaces into an open air, free to view, visual cacophony of colourful stories, art and creativity.
Zoos Victoria has engaged three-time Archibald Prize finalist, artist David Bromley to be the program's Art Patron.

During May, you will be invited to choose your favourite design, or you can even choose to commission your own artist. Sponsorships are $5,000 for a designed Mali or $4,500 if you would like to commission your own artist.

At the end of the year we will auction off the Malis with all proceeds going to our conservation work as we fight the extinction of animals in Australia and overseas.

This week the fibreglass replica of Mali and a miniature version found themselves hanging on 'The Edge' at Eureka Tower's Skydeck. The Eureka Tower have kindly demonstrated their support for Mali in the City, agreeing to house a finished sculpture during the exhibition period beginning in August.
